Jenrose and the Kentucky Bootleggers: Music

Ghost Town

(Jenrose And The Kentucky Bootleggers)
When you walk around
Up and down the streets of this town
Every sidewalk and storefront
They've got stories to tell
We've got boarded up buildings here
But there's a strip mall down the way
People with a void to fill
People who got stuff to sell

And sometimes you wonder
What did it look like in its day?
Who lived here when that crumbling
was just a glint in some designer's eye?
And what did they think about
As the years rolled on?
What would they say now
If they were just passers-by
In this ghost town?

In this ghost town…

There's people on the corner there
Outside the corner store
I can hear 'em from my window
Talkin' about the shutdowns
And I hear the man upstairs
Sayin' Yeah, they let us go
Seems his boyfriend let him know
After he heard it on the radio

He said I'm not the kind to pine
For the good old days
But I gave 30 years
Got no notice, no severance pay
And I always thought that I'd
Grow old here someday
But now it's not that clear
What's left here, gonna make me stay
In this ghost town

In this ghost town…

Sometimes late at night
I sit out by the river
That used to be the lifeblood of this town
All those buildings and bridges
Reflecting in the water,
All those restless spirits risin' up
As I look down

And I wonder
In this never-ending revolution
What will our next revelation be?
I mean, a hundred years out
What will they talk about?
And when they look down in this water
What will they see
In this ghost town?

In this ghost town…

Will they say When you walk around
Up and down the streets of this town
All the sidewalks and storefronts
They've got stories to tell…
